The Project That Started It All: Amelia's Pillow Boxes

Let me begin by saying: I've never thrown a baby shower before.
That being said, this was really easy! It just takes elbow grease to
do it inexpensively.

I knew immediately I needed a nice thick cardstock. If I'd used regular printer paper, the pillow boxes would have collapsed under the weight of the favors inside.

I stumbled across Ross' stationary section purely by accident. There among the cookbooks and clearance kitchen accessories were pads of thick scrap booking paper. Their prices  ranged between $1.99 - 3.99 (score!!).  These can cost as high as $20 in your local craft store. I settled on a set of papers that were thick and sparkled.

I had the general idea of how a pillow box worked. I was given a gift inside a pillow box and had saved it. All I had to do was open the seam, unfold the box and use it as a cutting template.

Once cut, I closed the seam with liquid glue and let them dry.

I embellished my pillow boxes with 3" ovals wrapped around the side of the box. This is much easier to glue on when they're flat- before you've folded the sides closed.  I purchased a few sheets of patterned paper from the scrap book section at my local craft store but you can also use wrapping paper, magazine cut outs and old gift bags!

Finishing touches: I tied organic looking string around the folded sides and added  "Thank You" medallions.

Out on display, these shower favors are ready to be enjoyed.
